The launch of the new generation Mercedes C-Class was the beginning of the end for all the different variations of the old model. That means the demise of one of the most special cars Mercedes and AMG have ever built: the C63 AMG.
What made the Mercedes C63 AMG something of a legend was its naturally-aspirated M156 6.2 liter V8 engine that came with a 6.3 badge. This engine too will die along with the C63, as a new, smaller, and more efficient turbo-charged engine is being made for it.
This engine and that car really deserve a special send-off. And who better to deliver it than the man who is one of the select few capable of taming an AMG beat, Chris Harris:
Chris believes the demise of the C63 and the 6.2 engine is the end of an era. The recipe that allowed massive v8 engines in small saloons and estate to make absolutely insane cars is going to be binned. He’s probably right, but those nutters at AMG will find a way to give us the old thrill.
