Datsun brand, as you may know, was revived by Nissan to cover the emerging markets with cheap, economy models that the Japanese car maker doesn’t really want associated with the Nissan brand itself. At this year’s Delhi Auto Expo, they revealed just the thing such markets in form of the redi-GO Concept.
Datsun redi-GO is a very small hatchback which looks kind of enormous in the pictures thanks to its tall profile. The high roof means decent headroom inside the cabin, which is good, because there doesn’t appear to be much legroom in the back.
These little detail details matter with the Datsun redi-GO, because although it is called a concept, there will definitely be a production version based on it, or virtually identical to it, in the very near future. The car fits the bill as a good choice for those on budget who want the minimum level of amenities and a fuel-efficient engine.
The main problem with these cut-price models is that, as Global NCAP proved a while ago, they are not awfully safe. And looking at this Datsun we can’t help but think it is going to topple over at the mere sight of a corner.
