Kia’s hot new hatchback, the Ceed GT, goes on sale in the UK today as the Korean car maker confirms the pricing and final specs of the car. The GT comes in two trim levels of standard and Tech, priced from £20,495 and £22,995 respectively, both powered by a 201bhp and 265 Nm of torque 1.6-litre T-GDi engine.

200 horsepower is standard power output for hot hatchbacks these days, as it is enough to provide good performance without compromising the economy. That said, it does not seem enough in the Kia Ceed GT, as the quoted 0 to 60 time for this car is 7.4 seconds. It’s not exactly slow, but you’d expect more from a hot hatch; especially one that looks this good.

Kia was adamant the Ceed GT must be good round corners. So they went berserk with the chassis and suspension tuning. Compared to a normal Ceed, the GT feature increased damper rebound and compression rates, stiffer springs and bushes and a larger rear anti-roll. The car also has 18-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres. What’s more, Kia Ceed GT features a retuned steering system and larger brakes.

All the good stuff we mentioned above makes the lack of proper performance tatse more bitter. Kia boasts about the GT’s combined fuel consumption of 38.2mpg and CO₂ emissions of 171g/km. We wish they had traded some of those MPGs for more MPH.
