Fresh details regarding the RS version of the new Porsche 911 (991) GT3 emerge from trusted sources inside Leipzig, revealing secrets of the car’s aerodynamic excellence, its lightweight construction, and performance figures. Porsche 991 GT3 RS is gearing up for a summer 2014 launch.

Traditionally, the GT3 RS is a harder, tauter, and faster version of the GT3 with more power, less weight, and more race car bits and bobs fitted to it. But if you were expecting a 500+ horsepower monster, you’d be disappointed to know that is not the case. The new RS is said to get only a slight bump in output over the standard GT3’s 475 horsepower.

With the 991 GT3 RS, Porsche is seeking performance through lightness. The interior will be stripped-out, the body panels will be lighter, and the glass will be thinner. The car will also feature a revised aerodynamic design with a new front splitter and winglets on the sides, as a new rear wing that give the whole thing the looks of a proper race car.

And yes, Porsche 991 GT3 RS will be PDK only. Manual gearbox won’t be offered even as an option. There is too much cleverness and precise engineering going on in this car for Porsche to let you mess it up with bad gear changes. On the upside, it’ll enable the car to launch incredibly quickly and hit 100 km/h in just over 3 seconds.
