Mercedes is celebrating the arrival of spring with the unveiling of a high-performance version of the new S-Class Coupe. The 2015 Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe, at least on the surface, seems to be the ultimate grand tourer, boasting handsome looks, a powerful engine, and a host of advanced technologies.
Mercedes says they have implemented new techniques, such as a lightweight lithium-ion battery, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimised AMG high-performance composite braking system, which result in significant light saving. The car also features an aluminum body. Despite all this, the S63 Coupe is a pretty hefty thing.
The beating heart of the Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe is an AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine, tuned to develop 585 hp and 900 Nm of torque. It takes this big, lofty car from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds, and returns 27.9 mpg (imp) which is quite impressive.
What sets the S63 AMG Coupe apart from the normal models, save the engine, include a subtle yet very sporty body kit, larger wheels and fatter tires, AMG sport exhaust system, plus AMG sport suspension and beefier brakes. The standard Magic Body Control system is further enhanced in this model with a curve tilting feature, with a Road Surface Scan system complementing the function of both. You can even order ceramic brakes if you are planning to be tough on the car.
Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe will make it world debut at the New York Auto Show in April, and will go on sale towards the end of 2014.
