BMW released the official pricing details of the new M4 Convertible ahead of American debut at the New York Auto Show. The high-performance drop-top four-seater is priced at $73,425, including tax and destination. That means being able to lower the roof in the M4 costs nearly 9 grand, as the M4 Coupe can be had from $64K.

Still, BMW M4 Convertible is pretty much perfect. You get the same poise and delicacy of handling, and the same thrilling turn of speed, as the M4 Coupe – since the performance difference between the two is negligible – plus the fun of open-top motoring.

Just like its hardtop brother, BMW M4 Convertible is powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The 3.0 liter unit makes 317 kW/431 hp and peak torque of 550 Newton metres (406 lb-ft), sprints from 0 to 60mph in 4.4 seconds (with the optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission), and goes on to a top speed of 155mph (limited).

The roof arrangement is the same as the previous model, featuring a three-piece hardtop that goes and down electronically in 20 seconds. You can also operate it on the move up to 11 mph. BMW says they have improved the system in the M4 for less noise and vibrations.

After reading the specs of BMW M4 Convertible, 73 grand might not seem like too expensive. But if you are going to order one, you might end up paying a lot more. The options list is full of tempting items and they are all frighteningly pricey.
