Scion FR S Release Series 1 600x314 at Scion FR S Release Series 1.0 Details Announced

As we have reported earlier, at the 2014 New York Auto Show Scion will release the FR-S Release Series 1.0, which is the first proper factory update for the Japanese sports car since its launch. They have now revealed the details of the Series 1.0, and while it comes with some nice options, we’re not sure it is worth the extra pay over a normal model.

Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 is priced at $30,000 plus a destination charge of $775. As you know, the standard FR-S is a 25 grand car. So let’s see what the extra 5 grand will buy you.

For starters, Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 is limited to 1,500 units, so there is the matter of exclusivity; although that is probably not entirely relevant about a cheap sports car. It’s not a Maserati for crying out loud! Then we have the extra options fitted to the car, including a custom aero kit, TRD Quad Tip Exhaust System, TRD lowering springs and Smart Key with Push Button Star. What’s more, the Release also comes with TRD steering wheel, shift knob and cargo mat, black seats, dual-zone air con, and Hid headlights.

Last but not least, Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 is offered in yellow, a color that the standard FR-S/GT86/BRZ does not get. That might be enough reason for some people to choose it over a standard model.
