The American sub-brand of Toyota, Scion, announced the launch of the latest iteration of the xB city car just in time for Christmas. The company apparently decided to use a self-deprecating method to promote this model, as the tagline for the 2015 Scion xB is that it is a “really cool box.”
So instead trying to justify the box-like design of the xB, Scion is embracing it and even counts it as an advantage. And they do have a point. This shape is not very sexy and appealing, but it gives plenty of practicality to the small xB. What’s more, it has been around long enough to look kind of iconic now. It’s unique, and therefore sort of cool.
Boasting a roomy cabin with room for five adults, the 2015 Scion xB is powered by 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that delivers 158 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and returns 28 mpg highway. The car comes with 16-inch wheels as standard with 17s available as an option, and revised MacPherson strut front suspension with stabilizer bar and a torsion beam rear suspension.
Aimed at young families, the new xB comes in a wide variety of vibrant colors and can be specified with a 6.1 inch LCD touchscreen boasting a range of connectivity features, plus Bluetooth and USB. Prices start from $17,120 for the five-speed manual transmission and $18,070 for the four-speed automatic.
