Contrary to what you might expect from a manufacturer like Volvo, their desire to make more exciting cars is not hindered by their obligations to go green. All their hybrid cars are designed to be both fun and economical. That explains why they launched an R-Design version of the V60 plug-in hybrid.

The V60 PHEV is one of the most fantastically economical cars in the European market. It has a diesel-electric powertrain that generates 215+70 horsepower and 440+200 Nm of torque, and returns an astonishing 155.2 mpg. It is also an estate, which adds great practicality to the list of the car’s good features.

Volvo V60 Hybrid benefits from decent performance, but you could argue it looks a bit too benign and, well, boring. That issue is addressed by the new R-Design package which adds a sporty flair to the uncompromising family car.

On the outside the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid R-Design features special front bumper and grille, rear diffuser and 18-inch Ixion wheels. Inside, you get sports seats as standard with a blend of black nubuck textile and perforated leather, as well as sports pedals, floor mats, and instrumentation, plus charcoal headlining.

Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid R-Design will go on sale in the British market from August, starting at £51,675. That is a lot of money, but then the V60 is a lot of car.
