Hyundai revealed in Korea today a concept version of the Veloster called Midship. The name refers to the fact that this car has its engine in the middle. And what an engine that is; a 300 horsepower 2.0 liter turbo.
Hyundai Veloster Midship is built by the Company’s High Performance Team who also created the i20 WRC rally car. Come to think of it, the Midship concept could be an study model for a Rallycross car. It is not powerful enough, but the engine layout, the rigid chassis, and the aerodynamics fit the bill perfectly.
The engine in the Hyundai Veloster Midship is actually mounted in the rear-mid section of the chassis, like the most serious supercars, for perfect weight distribution. This of course means the rear seats are gone and the car is not a two-seater.
Hyundai makes it abundantly clear that the Midship is a concept only to explore possibilities for the Veloster chassis and is currently not related to any future production model. That engine could be used in future production models though, but probably not the Genesis Coupe.
