British firm, DEE-Ltd (Development Engineering & Enterprise) announced its intention to launch a new entry-level, eco-minded single-seater racing series. Called Formula Genesis, the series promotes high performance low carbon products and technologies and sits above karting in terms of competitiveness.

The car they are proposing for Formula Genesis features a supercharged version of Toyota’s 1.0 liter 3-cylinder 1KR-FE production engine, fitted to a single-seater body and chassis built by UK’s leading race car manufacturers. The production-based engine is not only very cost-effective, it is also very efficient. What’s more, at 120bhp (with the supercharger), it is also fairly potent for its size and weight (75 kg).

DEE-Ltd, who holds the European rights for the import, distribution and application of Toyota engine and powertrain products, believes Formula Genesis will provide young drivers with an affordable opportunity to take their motorsport career to the next level. It bridges the gap between “competitive karting and the entry stages of the UK motorsport ladder,” according to the DEE.

Further details and the initial plans for new race series will be announced on Thursday (May 15th).

DEE’s Head of Motorsport, Nathan Poole says, “We have a plan; we have registered the name and associated domains – and we are in initial discussions with various sport bodies, interested parties and potential sponsors.  We are announcing the programme at TSB’s ‘Driving Innovation’ event on Thursday, 15th May – because of the relevance of both the organisations and attendees involved.  We are now inviting interested partner organisations to help us develop the Formula Genesis concept to the next stage, with naming rights and the full suite of marketing opportunities available which are normally associated with Formula racing.”
