It is not exactly a secret that Subaru BRZ, and its Toyota twin the GT86, is underpowered. What is kind of a secret is why they don’t do anything about it. There has been lots of talk about a turbocharged BRZ, but no real action. It doesn’t matter anymore, because Cosworth decided to take matters into their hand.
The British engineering firm released an elaborate teaser video for the upcoming Subaru BRZ Cosworth, announcing new “Power Packages” for the FA20 boxer engine, which is what powers the BRZ. They haven’t announced any numbers yet, but judging by the video the modifications appear to be pretty deep.
So an educated guess would put the output of Subaru BRZ Cosworth somewhere in the neighborhood of 280 to 300 horsepower. They also show a fully kitted-out Toyota GT86 sporting a TRD body kit complete with a large rear wing, larger wheels, and Cosworth stripes. Looks intriguing, but let’s wait and see what all this will result in.
