We’ve been hearing a lot about the Volkswagen GTI Roadster these days. After all, it is Volkswagen’s own concept and the reason why people come to Worthersee every year – to see what’s new in the GTI world. Now as a full scale version of the car make its debut at the event VW releases new pictures of the car, showing off its underpinnings.
For a virtual concept Volkswagen GTI Roadster has some tight packaging. The car, as you know, is mainly designed for the Gran Turismo 6 video game. The powertrain VW has envisioned for it, though, is real and properly hot.
The system consists of a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo TSI VR6 engine with 503 PS and maximum torque of 560 Nm, a Seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION four-wheel drive. Thanks to this setup the 1,420 Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, and go on to a top speed of over 300 km/h. You best try that in the game and not the real life.
Visually, Volkswagen GTI Roadster features a new colour, called Gran Turismo Red, and black parts that make the paint job really stand out. The interior features black- and anthracite-coloured sections, contrasted by classic GTI red on the stitching and also on the five-point safety harnesses. The rims measure 8.5 J x 20-inch with 235/35 tyres at the front and 9.5 J x 20-inch with 275/30 tyres at the rear.
