Harley-Davidson is probably the last brand you would expect to see entering the electric game, but they need to plan for any eventuality and so they launched the LiveWire project to get some insight about electric Harley-Davidson motorcycle. It is a concept for now, but who knows.

As the brand’s first-ever electric motorcycle, Harley-Davidson LiveWire tries to look futuristic without compromising the traditional design cues of a true Harley. The bike will embark on a U.S. tour – kicking off with a journey down Route 66 – later in the year and will visit more than 30 Harley-Davidson dealerships offering test rides to determine what people think of this idea.

There is no word on Harley-Davidson LiveWire technical specs or motorcycle batteries it will be using, but they say it has “tire-shredding acceleration” thanks to a high-torque electric motor. It apparently has the signature Harley-Davidson sound built into it as well. So, if you’re shopping for a Harley Davidson, put this on your list.

“Project LiveWire is more like the first electric guitar – not an electric car,” said Mark-Hans Richer, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “It’s an expression of individuality and iconic style that just happens to be electric. Project LiveWire is a bold statement for us as a company and a brand.”
