At the BMW International Open golf tournament, UK’s James Heath scored a hole-in-one on the 16th hole (par 3, 156 metres). The impressive shot was awarded with a brand-new BMW i8, which at 137,000 Euros is worth three times more than the highest prize he’d ever won before.

This kind of sets a precedent as to what sort of people BMW is looking at to make up the i8’s main customer base: golfers. Of course, they’ve been doing that for years. BMW 535i, 325i Cabrio, and a Z8 are among the other Bimmers awarded to pro golfers in this tournament.

Heath was of course very excited about winning the most amazing prize of his career. “I am blown away. I’m virtually speechless. The BMW i8 is a stunning car and worth 137.000 Euros. It more than triples the highest cheque I’ve ever made. I aimed about four yards left of the flag because of the water on the right. It pitched just past the flag and spun back in”, said the 31-year-old. “This is my fifteenth hole in one – the second in professional tournament play – but the others pale into insignificance by comparison.”

BMW i8 hybrid sports car is considered as the most advanced and futuristic car on the market right now. It features a small three-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors. Despite the small size of the powertrain, the i8 is as fast as a Porsche 911, and more efficient than a Toyota Prius.
