This lovely Olive Green car you see here is Range Rover chassis number #001, or simply Range Rover Number One, and it is the very first production unit of the British luxury SUV. Rangie One will be auctioned by Silverstone at this year’s Salon Prive in September and it is expected to fetch between £100,000 and £140,000.
Range Rover Number One was built between 24th November and 17th December 1969 before being registered on 2nd January 1970 by its first owner Michael Furlon, who produced two promotional films for this model.
In 1975 the car was resprayed in Bahama Gold and sold to another owner, and it wasn’t discovered as #100 car until it was taken back to the original color as part of a thorough restoration. It retains all its “matching numbers” components; chassis, engine, gearbox, and axles, as well as the original aluminium bonnet, and the original body shell. Even the original registration number ‘YVB 151H’ has been reissued to the car by DVLA.
Speaking on the sale of this historical car, Nick Whale, Managing Director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “It’s wonderful to be able to offer this iconic British model for auction at the UK’s finest concours event. These cars are incredibly popular and we expect a significant amount of interest when it goes under the hammer.”
