As the main sponsor of Race the Runway charity event which takes place in early September at Edinburgh Airport, Mercedes-Benz announced their plans for this year’s race, and they are big. The lineup includes Michael Schumacher’s 2012 Mercedes-AMG Petronas W03 Formula 1 car.
Race the Runway, an epic charity drag race organised by, and benefiting, the Glasgow-based Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, will see a collection of exotic cars competition on the extensive auxiliary runway at Edinburgh Airport. The cool thing is, the rest of the airport will remain open during the event, creating a wonderful spectacle for people both on the ground and on the departing planes.
Besides the F1 car, Mercedes line at the event will include the A 45 AMG; the 360 hp GLA 45 AMG; the C 63 AMG Black Series; the E 63 AMG S Estate; the SL 63 AMG Roadster and the gullwing SLS AMG Black Series. Together they have a combined power output of over 3,000 horsepower. The F1 car will be driven by Anthony Davidson.
“We’re delighted to be back at Race the Runway,” said Rob Halloway, Communications and Events Director Mercedes-Benz UK. “It’s great fun and a real privilege to thunder along the tarmac at take-off speeds in a car – and of course it’s all perfectly legal!
