The long-awaited Saleen-tuned Tesla Model S was finally unveiled this past weekend at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in form of Saleen Foursixteen. This is the world’s first properly modified Model S including visual, mechanical, and electronic upgrades.
Visually, Saleen Foursixteen is distinguished over a normal Model S by the virtue of its bespoke front fascia, new bonnet, rear diffuser and decklid spoiler. Moving inside, you will find that Saleen has schooled Tesla on how to make a luxury interior by replacing all the dull colors and materials with perforated leather accents and Alcantara suede inlays as well as contrast stitching.
More important than aesthetics are Saleen Foursixteen technical features. The car boasts a 3-phase, four pole AC induction motor and copper rotor with the upgraded Saleen drivetrain including an all-new 11.39:1 final gear ratio plus a Saleen specific MAXGRIPTM locking differential. It is also equipped with high-efficiency cooling system consisting of a larger volume radiator, upsampled cooling fans, and a high-flow water pump.
Saleen does not mention any performance figures, but they do promise the Foursixteen is significantly quicker than a standard Model S. In fact they went ahead and upgraded the chassis with monotube coilover adjustable suspension system and modified the Stability Control System for track work. High-performance brakes and tires are also included.
Saleen Foursixteen starts from $152,000 for the complete vehicle, which includes the base P85Model S sedan.
