Mercedes SLK Coupe Envisioned as Cayman Fighter

Inspired by the AMG GT, independent designer Theophilus Chin has rendered a coupe version of the SLK roadster. The idea is that Mercedes SLK Coupe would someday make a worthy rival for the almighty Porsche Cayman.

That is, of course, not very likely, since Mercedes knows there is no way they can make a sports coupe as good as that Porsche. No one can. On the other hand, this imaginary Mercedes SLK Coupe does look nice enough to at least ponder the possibility of launching such model – like a limited edition spin-off.

Now, one might say the SLK already is a coupe because it has a folding metal roof. But as you can see in the renderings, a proper coupe would look substantially different from the convertible, and also because it is more rigid and structurally stronger, it’d be different to drive as well.

A few days we told you about the new naming policy Mercedes-Benz is applying next year, based of which the SLK moniker will be dropped and replaced with SLC. That will cause another issue for a possible SLK Coupe, because logically it should be called SLCC, which doesn’t sound cool.
