Putting an end to all speculations and a never-ending stream of renderings, Mercedes-Benz today released the official details and pictures of the Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake along with its CLA 45 AMG variant. And it looks quite good.
We cannot say it looks really good, unfortunately, mainly because the CLA itself has a rather controversial design. Adding what’s essentially a big arse to the back of that design hardly changes things for the better.
Still, if you were a fan of the compact four-door coupe, you will find the Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake an absolute delight as it offers the same sort of unique looks, with the added practicality that comes with having a rear hatch. Size-wise, the car measures length/width/height 4630/1777/1435 mm, and boasts maximum capacity of 1354 litres.
Still having one of the best drag co-efficiency numbers among all four-door cars, Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake will launch in Europe with two diesels (136-hp CLA 200 CDI and 177-hp CLA 220 CDI), and three petrol engines (CLA 180 with 122-hp; CLA 200 with 156-hp; and CLA 250 with 211-hp). The latter, CLA 250 can be specified with 4MATIC all-wheel-drive-system.
The only engine we are interested in for the CLA Shooting brake is to be found in the CLA 45 AMG variant. It’s a 2.0 liter turbo with 360 hp and peak torque of 450 Nm, and it is capable of accelerating from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds while returning an average fuel consumption of 6.9 liter per 100 km.
