The limited edition Ford Mustang 50 Year Edition has been chosen as the pace car for an upcoming NASCAR event. This model is one of the most covetable variants of the new Mustang due to cues it borrows from the original pony car.
The Mustang 50, to call it by the short version of its hefty name, will pace the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races during Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. One of just 1,964 50-Year Limited Edition Mustangs, the pace car features a Wimbledon White paint job garnished with various racing stickers, and a lights bar.
Ford Mustang 50 Year Edition is based on the 5.0 liter GT model with a V8 engine developing 435 horsepower. It boasts the traditional Mustang features including long hood and short rear deck lid, but also retro-inspired wheels, chrome grilles, and louvered rear window as an optional feature.
The Mustang pace car will be driven by John Felice, vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. A Race Red 2015 Mustang GT fastback will serve as the splitter pace car for the two races.
