As the winter gradually settles in and the roads get more slippery, Mercedes-Benz America announces the launch of the all-wheel-drive Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe 4MATIC. This is a coupe to rule them all – it has beauty, power, luxury, and of course, 4MATIC traction.
The high-performance, four-wheel-drive Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe 4MATIC has the same engine as standard S63s, a 5.5-liter V8 biturbo with 577 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. But thanks to the grip and traction of the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC, it is significantly quicker, making 60 mph from zero in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is limited… to 186 mph!
With permanent all-wheel-drive, 33 percent of the engine torque is sent to the front axle and 67 percent to the rear axle. The rear-biased power distribution provides the signature AMG high driving dynamics and superlative driving enjoyment as well as boosting acceleration from a standing start.
It is hard to believe a car with such supercar-like performance is also good at so many other thing. The S63 AMG comes with a bespoke aero kit, carbon ceramic brakes, special suspension, exclusive wheels and tires, and a super deluxe interior full of leather and, depending on your specs, carbon or wood.
Downsides, well, there aren’t many. But you could argue that despite all the efforts with lightweight construction and what not, the S63 is still a big and heavy machine and not a sporty one to drive. Also, it is not light on fuel, if you care about economy.
