Mercedes GLE Rendered in Real Coupe Guise

The new Mercedes GLE is pitched by the manufacturer as a four-door coupe crossover. This car is Mercedes’ rival for the BMW X6, which is also called a sport activity coupe. But to someone who has always thought a coupe car has only two doors, this whole affair is a bit bewildering.

The fact is, Mercedes GLE and BMW X6 are not real coupes. They are designed to integrated the styling of a coupe – curvy roofline, low windows, sleek lines – into the structure of a utility vehicle, in the same way that Mercedes CLS integrated the coupe styling into the four-door sedan body shape, resulting in an immensely popular class.

Now, and for those pedantic car guys who still can’t get their heads around this idea, X-Tomi has rendered a real coupe version of the Mercedes GLE. This one has only two doors, and we have to say it looks more pleasant than the standard four-door version. Trouble is, if you have a car that size, you might as well make it a four-door. There is no sense in deliberately making the car less practical when you have the space to spare.

And if you think it must have been easy for X-Tomi to make this rendering, there is actually more to it than just painting over the rear doors. He has readjusted the design of the side windows in relation to the new doors, which is why his version of the GLE looks sweeter than the real car.
