In one of the most luckiest spots of 2014, a Swiss car enthusiast managed to snap a few shots of a BMW prototype parked in a garage, undisguised. The car in question turned out to be the all-new and highly-anticipated 2016 BMW 7 Series.

The caught prototype shows a 730d version of the 2016 BMW 7 Series, which is the very base model. Even so, it appears to be very well appointed with high-end trims and a lovely interior full of leather and wood. As for the design, the first impressions are not that good, if we’re honest.

Not that the 2016 BMW 7 Series is uglier than the ones it will replace – cuz nothing can ever be as ugly as a Bangle-era 7er! – but it also doesn’t shake you to your core at first sight, like the new M4 did. The front-end still has that weird bear-like look about it, and the back is too fat. All that said, this being a Bimmer, the 7 Series still looks quite athletic; certainly more than the rivals from Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

The biggest highlights of the 2016 BMW 7 Series, apart from the looks, include a drastic weight loss of nearly 200 kg thanks to extensive use of lightweight materials; laser headlights; efficient new engines including a hybrid powertrain; super advanced connectivity systems; and high-tech safety features including many driver assist systems.
