Finally, after years of ignoring the fact that the 1 Series looks like a genetic mistake, BMW has given the hatchback a proper facelift and made it half presentable. Actually, we’re being kinda harsh. The new BMW 1 Series Facelift looks pretty decent.
The biggest changes have happened at the front of the car where the BMW 1 Series Facelift gets an all-new fascia with redesigned headlights and bumpers. Those stupid-looking lights of the previous model are fortunately dead and gone. The rest of the revisions, apart from the shape of the tail lights, are more subtle and add up to make the 1er look and feel more premium than before.
The new style of the 1 Series is backed by new technologies, especially in terms of lighting. The car comes with adaptive LED headlights with High Beam Assistant function and LED fog lights with cornering. What’s more, you get a 6.5 inch infotainment screen which can be optionally swapped for a larger 8.8 inch one. High gloss detailing and interesting new upholsteries and trim pieces are also included in the package.
The engine lineup for the BMW 1 Series Facelift is pretty much the same as before, with small upgrades made to various petrol and diesel units to make them more efficient. The one variant everybody’s interested in is, of course, the M135i which can also be ordered with xDrive four-wheel-drive, now packing nearly 330 horsepower and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds (with the 8-speed automatic transmission).
