German firm Maxi-Tuner has had a go with the Porsche 991 Turbo; an encounter that resulted in a very decent power upgrade for the Turbo and Turbo S models. Both models are powered by the same 3.8 liter bi-turbo flat-six which has been the subject of this tuning program.
The engine in the Porsche 991 Turbo models in an engineering marvel, producing 520 hp and 660 Nm (Turbo S 560 hp and 700 Nm) out of the box. Coupled with a dual-clutch PDK transmission and an intelligent four-wheel-drive, the engine turns the 911 Turbo into a safe and sound speed machine.
What Maxi-Tuner does is like injecting the engine with steroid, boosting its performance a bit further through the use of ECU remap and higher-performance exhaust systems. The effect of these seemingly simple changes is profound.
Maxi-Tuner’s Porsche 991 Turbo gets a 60 horsepower jump in power with the software upgrade alone, meaning the Turbo now makes 580 hp and the Turbo S 620 hp. Add the stainless steel exhaust, and you get another 15 or so horses. The full-fat version is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, which is McLaren P1 territory.
