Mercedes-Benz motorsport division seems to be in a bit of a hurry to replace the SKS AMG GT3 race car with a new model based on the AMG GT. The SLS still has a lot of life left in it, but at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show they will introduce its replacement, the Mercedes AMG GT3.

To be more precise, the new Mercedes AMG GT3 does not immediately replace the SLS GT3, but rather complements it in expanding the firm’s customer race cars. The previous car proved successful enough for the Mercedes to try new things with this market.

Built to comply with FIA GT3 race regulations and developed using the same basic principles as the road-going car, the Mercedes AMG GT3 takes a no-nonsense approach to performance, meaning the car is as light as possible, and it uses the power of its V8 engine as efficiently as possible without compromising the car’s on-track capabilities.

The car also sports a massive racing aero kit which, combined with the tweaked engine and lighter weight, make it an absolute weapon on the race track. When it launches next year, the AMG GT3 will be a thorn in Porsche and Ferrari’s side, slugging it out for the title of the new GT3 class champion.
