The R231 generation Mercedes SL has been around a for a while now, long enough for the German automaker to think of a proper facelift. But they are not yet ready for that. Instead they are giving us a special edition model called Mercedes SL 417 Mille Miglia.
To be revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month, the Mercedes SL 417 Mille Miglia is an obvious homage to the classic Mille Miglia (1000 mile) race and Sir Stirling Moss’ astounding victory in a 300 SLR, bearing race number 417, sixty years ago.
Mercedes has done this once before in 1995 with the SL320 and SL500 Mille Miglia editions, but this time it is the SL400 and SL500 that benefit from the package. The main highlights of is include brash red accents on the front spoiler, around wheels, rear diffuser, brake calipers, and in a heavier dose inside the cabin. There you will find red piping and accents on the seats and steering wheels, as well as various carbon fiber trim pieces plus a 417 Mille Miglia commemorative plaque.
Limited to 500 package, the Mercedes SL 417 Mille Miglia comes with either a 330-hp twin-turbo V6 (SL400) costing 14,000 Euros, or a 430-hp twin-turbo V8 (SL500) on which it costs 12,800 Euros.
