At this year’s New York Auto Show Jaguar will unveil an all-new XF sedan, and true to form, they have come up with an elaborate teasing campaign to hype the thing. The new Jaguar XF is going to perform a world first high-wire water crossing.

The point of sending a stuntman to drive the new Jaguar XF across two 34mm-diameter wires suspended high above water is to highlight “the lightweight and agile credentials” of the car. Just like its little brother, the XE, the new XF will make use of an advanced aluminium-intensive architecture, which is how it can promise fuel economy figures of over 70mpg.

The stuntman Jaguar has hired for this “high wire” gig is Jim Dowdell whose resume includes films like Bond, Bourne and Indiana Jones.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, said: “I believe the all-new XF will be the best looking car in its class. Elegant, handsome and with proportions that imbue a great sense of integrity – the all-new XF will be true to the strong tradition of sporting Jaguar saloons while being completely of its time.”
