Volvo is taking a different approach with the new XC90 than the one that made the first generation of the car such a hit. That car was all about practicality and family friendliness. The new one is mostly about style and luxury, hence the launch of the Volvo XC90 Excellence Edition.
It is really China’s fault, or their new money millionaires to be more precise, for creating a lucrative market for ultra-luxe cars. So car makers naturally put resources on developing products that would appeal to the guys with the cash, rather than trying to come up with something the masses would enjoy using everyday.
Ay any rate, the 2015 Volvo XC90 Excellence, unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, enjoys a wide variety extra features compared to a normal model. There is one omission, however, and that is the middle seat at the back. The XC90 Excellence is a four-seater SUV with spacious individual reclining rear seats complete with massage, ventilation and increased leg room with footrests.
The rear passengers of Volvo XC90 Excellence will also enjoy ambient lighting, illuminated storage, a retractable control touchscreen, folding tables, a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders, a heated/chilled cup holder and handmade crystal glasses, while playing tunes on a specially-augmented Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 20 speakers.
Other lavish goodies fitted to the Excellence include integrated ionic air cleaner in the CleanZone climate system, leather detailing in blond or charcoal with a color coordinated headliner made of pure Nubuck textile, and contrast stitching.
