There is still a lot of life left in the current-generation Mercedes GLK, but in a few months that car will be replaced by an all-new model that also has a new name. Daimler is dropping the GLK like a bad habit and giving its place to a much fancier model called Mercedes GLC. Well, at least it looks fancy in the official sketch they’ve released.

The new Mercedes GLC is set for debut at the next Frankfurt Auto Show in September, but we will be getting a good look at it sooner than that. Just like the GLK, the car slots under the GLE (formerly known as M-Class) and the GLA compact crossover as the firm’s mid-size offering for this busy and tough segment.

Judging by what we can see in the official drawing of the Mercedes GLC, the car features a pretty cool design with a face inspired by the new GLE family and a Porsche Macan-like profile. Grated, the real GLC won’t have the oversized wheels and the ride height depicted here. But still, it would be a good look.

Engine-wise, the car will be offered, in both left- and right-hand-drive markets, with a range of four- and six-cylinder engines of both diesel and petrol formats. The crossover will also get two AMG variants including GLC450 Sport with a powerful V6 engine and GLC63 with a full-fat V8 motor.
