Well, this was bound to happen sooner or later. A day after BMW unveiled the new M2 compact sports coupe, renderers have come up with a ragtop version of it in from of this BMW M2 Convertible. This is one of those renderings that actually make a lot of sense, but will never happen.
We are basing that judgment that BMW never made a convertible version of the 1M Coupe, and also the fact that they already have a pretty nifty Convertible 2er with a great engine. So chances are the M2 Coupe will remain a two-door hardtop, which is for the best, since this car is way too well-engineered to have its roof chopped off and all that delicate engineering redone.
Another reason why we don’t see BMW M2 Convertible happening is the cost. BMW is yet to release the official pricing of the car, but it is apparently going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 60,000 Euro. Now that’s a lot for a 2 Series, even one with a 365 horsepower engine and a chassis as good as the one M2 is rocking. A convertible version could easily add 6 or 7 grand to that asking price, making it even less appealing to your wallet. And did we even mention weight?
