Just when we thought everybody had put the fracas behind them and moved on with their lives, news emerged that Oisin Tymon, the Top Gear producer Jeremy Clarkson punched for his inability to procure hot food for him, is suing the presenter and the BBC.
In what appears to be a make-a-quick-buck attempt, Oisin Tymon and his lawyers are seeking one hundred thousand pounds in damages for racial discrimination, verbal abuse and personal injury. They evidently thought that sum is reasonable enough for the defendants to want to pay up and settle, which is how these cases usually play out. If they don’t settle, the case will head to a full employment tribunal and could take months to get processed.
So yes, the whole thing stinks a bit, but you can’t really blame Oisin Tymon, for he is the victim here. To be honest you can’t even blame the BBC for firing Jeremy Clarkson and not wanting to have anything to do him anymore. They covered up his racial slurs and bigoted comments for as long as they could. But he bodily harmed a producer, well, that’s not something you can close your eyes on, no matter how much you like the man’s character and his work as a presenter.
