Kia are about cause a bit of commotion in the mid-size crossover segment in the UK with the launch of their new Kia Niro Hybrid. This model delivers all that you would ever want from a crossover, it is a lot more economical than a regular crossover, and it starts at just £21,295. That’s game over right there.

Powering all versions of the Kia Niro Hybrid in the UK, available in ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ and ‘First Edition’ trims, is a 139 bhp and 265 Nm of torque hybrid unit consisting of a 1.6 liter petrol engine coupled with a small electric motor and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. It’s not a fast car, the Niro, with a 0-60 time of 11.1 seconds and a top speed of 101 mph. But it does up to 74.3 mpg and CO2 ratings for the most efficient version stands at 88 g/km.

In terms of specifications, the standard kit on Kia Niro Hybrid ‘1’ include Lane Keep Assist System, Hill-start Assist Control, Cruise Control and a Speed Limiter, DAB radio, Bluetooth, 16-inch alloy wheels, a high-gloss black radiator grille with a black and chrome surround, dual automatic air conditioning, an automatic windscreen de-fogging system, LED daytime running lights and tail lights, a 3.5-inch TFT supervision cluster, all-round electric windows and electric exterior mirror adjustment, USB and AUX ports and a trip computer.

You have to admit that’s pretty good kit for just 21 grand. Higher trim levels just add up to that with premium features such as larger screens, higher-sized wheels, more chrome, top-notch stereo, more leather, and the like. As for the range-topping First Edition (£26,995) it comes with unique grey leather trim, white interior trim inserts, a smart key and engine start/stop button, heated outer rear seats, ventilated front seats and an electric tilting and sliding sunroof and adds Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection with a Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Smart Cruise Control.
