It is really hard making a cheap supermini look cool and sophisticated, but it hasn’t stopped Nissan from trying. They just announced the launch of the special edition Nissan Note Black Edition in the British market featuring enhanced styling and a high level of standard equipment.

So the idea here, we think, is for you to still spend peanuts but look like a million dollars. But that’s just the idea. The reality is Nissan Note Black Edition looks like any other hatchback but with black wheels.

That, of course, is only part of the special treatment this car has received. It also has the Dynamic Styling Pack with body-coloured bumpers front and rear, side skirts and black bezel headlights, and it even gets a “performance-oriented black spoiler.” Then there is the 16-inch alloy wheels, smart new door handles and mirror covers, plus gloss inserts around the daytime running lights.

True to its name, the Note Black also features a lot of gloss black stuff inside the cabin, including black center console, black gear shift knob and black headliner. Equipment-wise, you get as standard electric rear windows, air conditioning, a multi-function leather steering wheel and Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, but NissanConnect touch-screen infotainment is still an optional extra.

Available in Storm White or a metallic Pearl Black, Nissan Note Black Edition can be had with  either a 1.5-litre dCi 90hp with manual gearbox, or a 1.2-litre 80hp with manual gearbox. Pricing starts at £14,415.
