For all the variety the SUV market offers these days, if you want a full-size, V8-powered utility vehicle but don’t have 70 or 80 grand to spend on a Cayenne or a G-Wagen, you have only a few good choices. One of them is the new 2017 Nissan Armada which, at least on paper, seems to be offering some serious bang for the buck.

The rugged ad fairly handsome Armada, which people from the East might know better as the Patrol, starts at $44,400 and for that you get a 5.6 liter Endurance V8 engine with 390-horsepower and a new 7-speed automatic transmission, but only two-wheel-drive. A four-wheel-drive version in the same trim grade will cost you $47,300 (excluding the $995 destination charge), but it’s a nice option to have on a car of this size and capabilities.

While the V8 engine is standard across the range, the level of equipment you get with the 2017 Nissan Armada depends on the trim you choose. The list of list of standard and available features is a rich one though, and includes Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Blind Spot Intervention (BSI), Backup Collision Intervention (BCI) and Around View Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD), Nissan Navigation with NavTraffic and NavWeather information (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately) and 8.0-inch color display, heated front seats and 13-speaker Bose audio system.

2017 Nissan Armada U.S. MSRP:

Armada SV 2WD $44,400 USD
Armada SL 2WD $49,150 USD
Armada Platinum 2WD $57,090 USD
Armada SV 4WD $47,300 USD
Armada SL 4WD $52,050 USD
Armada Platinum AWD $59,990 USD
