The owners of the previous generation MX-5 who, for whatever reason, decided not to upgrade to the new model will be chuffed to know there is still one tuner thinking about their car and coming up with fresh upgrade packages for it. This is the BBR Mazda MX-5 based on the NC model and it has a new Super 175 kit for the 1.8-litre engine.
This package follows the Super 200 which was designed for the 2.0 liter models and brings in similar modifications for the 1.8 naturally aspirated engine. BBR Mazda MX-5 NC ‘Super 175’ comes with a pair of exclusive camshaft profiles with unique lift and timing specifications, a custom tubular stainless steel exhaust manifold and custom engine management system recalibration which is one of BBR’s main specialties.
What that means in terms of power gain is an increase to 175 horsepower and a peak torque of 143 lb-ft which gives the old NC MX-5 a livelier performance and improved agility. A full Super 175 package for BBR Mazda MX-5 1.8 costs £1995.00 fully installed or £1595.00 DIY, and it includes the following items: High flow BBR panel air filter, BBR stainless steel 4 into 1 exhaust manifold, BBR high performance intake and exhaust camshafts, BBR 3.5 inch diameter branded tailpipes with stainless steel clamps, BBR ECU remap, BBR badges for front wings and bootlid.
