Mercedes-Benz announced their partnership with Pebble Technology to develop innovative integrated applications and hardware. The first outcome of this partnership with the Silicon Valley-based firm will be revealed at the 2014 CES in form of the Mercedes-Benz Pebble Smartwatch.
What this thing does, in essence, is to connect you to your car at all times. Mind you, the watch is nothing on its own. The wearable device links up with your smartphone, which in turn connects to your car via a special app, and together they enable a range of useful features.
To give you some examples as to the functions of the Mercedes-Benz Pebble Smartwatch, it enables you to review important vehicle information at a glance like fuel level, door-lock status, and vehicle location from far away. What’s more, while you are in the car, the device provides real-time hazards through V2V technology like accidents, road construction, or stalled vehicles by vibrating the watch.
The three buttons of the smartwatch can be customized to activate different features like reporting hazards, auto-routing, Siri activation, remote-controlling media, or quickly showing nearby traffic conditions.
There’s no detail on when, and if, this smartwatch will be available for Mercedes production cars. But it seems like a must-have gadget for today’s tech-savvy customers.
