Following a couple of very tasty design sketches, Volkswagen has now released official pictures and further details of the new Golf R 400 concept as the car makes its debut at the Beijing Auto Show. The R 400 is basically an unplugged version of the Golf R that could see limited production in the near future.

Golf R 400 is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine you find the existing Golf R, but the power output is pushed to 400 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Equipped with 4MOTION four-wheel drive and a six-speed DSG transmission, this car accelerates form 0 to 100 km/h in an astonishing 3.9 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 174 mph.

The extra oomph is the direct result of employing newly developed turbocharger with a higher maximum charge pressure and reinforced crankcase. To cope with it, they have also improved the cooling system as well as the chassis.

Golf R 400 features a wide body kit (20 mm wider than the standard) which pays homage to the 1988 Rallye Golf G60. It rides on 19-inch wheels and has a lot of carbon fiber elements adorning the exterior. The whole thing is wrapped up in a ‘Silver Flake’ metallic paint, which really sets off the carbon bits, and garnished with yellow accents.

Main interior features of the Golf R 400 include motorsport shell seats with integrated head restraints and belt openings, Alcantara and ‘carbon leather’ trimming, and lemon yellow stitching.
