Land Rover to make LRX with government money
Wednesday, March 11, 2009 15:41 by Arman Barari
This is what we call great news. Land Rover has confirmed production of the LRX concept under Range Rover brand. Although it’s said that it will be a 5-door car rather than this handsome coupe you see here, but nevertheless, Hooray!
But where did they find enough money to make it?! they are constantly laying off workers and shutting down factories, so making this luxury makes no sense! Unless they have received the UK government grant of £27 million, as a part of £2.3 billion Automotive Assistance Programme!
However this £27 million is by no mean enough fund to make a new car, and that make us think that the LRX will be exactly a Range Rover Sport underneath to keep the costs low, only with a new body. Of course Land Rover is determined to make greener SUVs and that is another worry! because the LRX might compromise on power. We have to wait at least until 2011 to know all the facts, and that’s a long time, many things can change. Maybe the economy go booming again and they put a V12 in the LRX! Dream on baby
