During his recent visit to to Michigan President Obama dropped by at LG Chem Compact Power battery plant, where they make battery cells for the new Chevrolet Volt electric car, and for the first time got behind the wheel of this revolutionary American car. Chevy Volt got everything it needs to beat the Prius as the first choice for those looking for an electric hybrid. We wish all the best for the Volt, at least it’s a damn sight better looking than its Japanese rival!

Chevrolet Volt with extended range capability has a range of about 40 miles when it’s using the stored energy in the batteries, and 340 miles when the internal combustion engine which is in fact a generator, kicks in. The Volt battery pack will be assembled in Brownstown Township, Mich., and shipped to the Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant for mating with the Volt. The package comes with an eight-year or 100,000 mile warranty.
