Opel Adam 1 at Opel Adam City Car Announced

Opel’s all-new city car has been officially named Adam. Formerly known as the Junior, the Adam is named after the founder of Opel. It is a small city car, measuring only 3.7 meters long. The Adam is based on a shortened version of the Corsa’s chassis, and can be considered as a rival for the Volkswagen up!, only it’ll be more stylish and trendy.

Engine-wise, the Adam city car will launch in 2013 with a lineup of three and four-cylinder small displacement units. The biggest engine it’s ever going to get is a 1.6 liter, but most of the engines – both diesel and petrol – will benefit from turbochargers to provide decent power output and ensure fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. The car is set to be fully EU6 compatible.

Being a trendy new city car, the Adam will get a range of up to the minute gadgets such as smartphone integration and infotainment system. An OPC version is not likely, but sporty versions are sure to follow the normal models.

Official debut of Opel Adam is planned for Paris Motor Show. Here’s a teaser video and some shots of the car’s prototype.
