Opel Adam OPC In The Works

Opel Adam at Opel Adam OPC In The Works

Opel is already developing a hot version of its new Adam city car. Giving the OPC treatment to a car like the Adam may sound like an overkill, but since it is a rival for the likes of Fiat 500 and VW up!, it needs a high performance version to keep up with them.

Of course the Adam itself is yet to get its feet grounded in the market, so an OPC model is at least one year away, but when it finally arrives it will be powered by the same 1.6 liter turbocharged four-pot in the Corsa OPC. In the Corsa that engine makes 190bhp.

Now one might think Opel will detune the engine a bit for use in the Adam, because size-wise it may not be able to handle it. But Opel engineers knew that someday there will be a high-power model, so they made the chassis capable of dealing with up to 200 hp. Another option Opel is considering for the yet to be confirmed Adam OPC is the 1.4 liter turbo engine from the Astra.

Regardless of the engine’s displacement and power output, the OPC package will include lots of structural work, including sport suspension, bigger brakes, and bigger wheels. The visual treatment will be part of it, as usual, plus a revised interior.

Opel’s OPC department has a habit of overcooking their products though. So if you were planning on buying an Abarth 500, go right ahead.
