Along with the Volkswagen Polo R WRC rally car comes a road-going version, putting up a fight for small hot hatchbacks everywhere. This little fella packs a big punch in form of 217 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque; only 80-hp shy of the full-on WRC car.

The street car gets the has the same basic engine as the competition version. It also doesn’t get the rally car’s drivetrain, gearbox, tires, and wide body kit. But, as it is, Polo R WRC outperforms the much publicized Ford Focus ST. The VW does zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in 6.5 seconds, and reaches a top speed 243 km/h (151mph).

The front-wheel-drive Polo R WRC comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, which makes driving this pocket rocket even more fun.

It’s a privilege for only 2,500 customers, as Volkswagen wants to maintain that car’s exclusivity. Polo R WRC is an expensive bit of kit, though. It is priced at €33,900 apiece.
