The electric version of the 2013 Ford Focus has been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and they’ve awarded it with five golden stars. That is not surprising, considering the number of advanced safety features Ford has packed into this car.
Ford Focus Electric features an AdvanceTrac electronic stability control that monitors the car’s behaviors and intervene if necessary to make them right. Even the airbags in the Electric Focus are different than normal units.
The intelligent airbags in the Focus Electric tailor deployment to individual occupants. What’s more, the driver’s airbag uses a reconfigured curve-shaped tether system that pulls in the lower section to create a “pocket” to help lessen the impact of the airbag on the driver’s chest and ribs.Front airbags are also dual-stage.
Other notable safety features in the Ford Focus Electric include four-wheel anti-lock braking system, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children), and anti-theft engine immobilizer.
