Audi A3 g tron 1 545x363 at Geneva Preview: Audi A3 g tron

Audi’s 2013 Geneva Motor Show lineup include a new concept car based on the Audi A3 called the g-tron. Now, you are probably familiar with Audi’s e-tron family. They are powered by Electricity. The g-tron is powered by Gas – Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to be more precise.

The g-tron is actually a hybrid. The car has a 1.4 liter TSI engine converted to run on CNG as well as petrol, hence the twin-tank system. Naturally, CNG makes less power than petrol, which is why this 1.4 TSI engine makes only 110 PS and 200Nm of torque.

So the performance is not brilliant, as 0 to 100 km/h takes 11 seconds and the top speed is only 190 km/h. The CNG tank has a capacity of 7 kg CNG, which is enough to cover 400 km. The gasoline tank provides another 900 km of travel, which means you have a total range of 1,300 km. That is fantastic. You can easily forgive the shabby performance.

Further details and any plans for producing this car will be announced later.
