Peugeot released official details of its awesome new Pikes Peak Racer. The Peugeot 208 T16 is based on the 208 city car, and by that we mean it just has a mild resemblance to it. Pretty much everything about this car is bespoke and extra ordinary.

The 208 T16 has a power to weight ratio of 1:1 and it weighs 875 kilograms. You don’t have to be familiar with advanced mathematics to realize this little beast has 875 horsepower. That is more power than a Formula 1 car. Now that massive aero kit makes some sense. It is there to stop the car flying.

The T16 has a spot-on weight distribution thanks to a fine-tuned tubular frame and a central driving position. The engine is mounted in the mid-rear section,  like the famous Group B rally cars of the 1980s and like endurance racing prototypes. The 208 T16 also borrows some of its part form the 908 Le Mans racer’ parts such as the running gear, brakes and aerodynamic features like the air-intake and the spectacular two-metre wide rear wing. The four-wheel-drive car rides on bespoke Michelin tires.

Peugeot has done its part. It’s up to Sebastian Loeb now to summon all his talent and make history.
