Ford has just announced the official Mountune power kit for both its hot hatches, the Focus ST and the Fiesta ST. These Mountune-powered Fords are more powerful than many of the sports cars such as the Porsche Boxster and Mercedes SLK, while costing thousands of pounds less.

In the case of the Focus ST, the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine is boosted to 275PS, which means the 0 to 62 mph time is dropped to under six seconds. Likewise, the smaller, nimbler Fiesta ST gets  bump to 215 PS, and achieves a 0-62 time of 6.7 seconds.

The in-gear acceleration is enhanced even further, thanks to the increased torque. The Focus ST gets 400 Nm, which improves 31-62mph acceleration in fourth gear by 0.8sec to 4.9sec, and the Fiesta ST gets 320 Nm, which in turn improves 31-62 mph acceleration in fourth gear by 0.7sec to 5.7sec.

So what is this Mountune performance package exactly, you might ask. Well, it is a pretty simple, and yet effective, engine treatment including a cast alloy inlet duct (silver or black powder coat finish), high-flow air filter element, larger alloy intercooler (silver or black powder coat finish) and unique calibration (Focus ST); and a re-modelled air box base with secondary inlet duct, a high-flow filter element and unique calibration (Fiesta ST).

The beauty of this kit, apart form the price, is that it can be installed in under 60 minutes on the Fiesta and little over 90 minutes on the Focus ST. he Fiesta ST Mountune upgrade costs £599, while the Focus package will set you back £1,225 for silver and £1,275 for black. Both are fully compatible with the Ford warranty.
