Cadillac has already been generous enough to shows us what the new CT6 flagship sedan looks like in their Oscars ad. Or maybe that was an unintentional leak because they were too excited to be part of the Oscars ad frenzy? At any rate, they have now revealed the car’s advanced chassis.
As you would expect from modern product of the second decade of the 21st century, 2016 Cadillac CT6 boasts one of those unibody chassis thingies built with “mixed-material approach.” What that means is they have put together a number of lightweight materials customized for each area of the car to achieve the best compromise between overall lightness and a strong structure.
According to GM, 64 percent of the 2016 Cadillac CT6 body structure is aluminum, including all exterior body panels, while the underbody uses steel close-out panels on the lower structure. The advantages of having a light yet rigid chassis are numerous, but we can mention advance driving dynamics, fuel economy and cabin quietness as some of the most important.
“The structure of the CT6 is one of the most-advanced body systems we’ve ever produced,” said Travis Hester, Cadillac CT6 executive chief engineer. “The innovation surrounding our joining techniques have enabled us to create a vehicle structure with the highest torsional rigidity of any Cadillac while achieving one of the most mass-efficient vehicles in the segment.”
