BMW decided it was time to give their smallest SUV, the X1, a proper makeover, and in doing so they not only improved the looks of the vehicle, they enhanced its practicality, power and efficiency. The 2016 BMW X1 is now really is the king of compact crossovers.

As always, BMW’s design leaves something to be desired and the new X1 is no exception. But the car does look a 110 percent better than its predecessor, especially around the front we know get a pair of nicely sculpted headlights instead of those weird things that made the previous model look like a dead sea creature washed up on the beach.

The 2016 BMW X1, which offers the greatest roominess and versatility in its class, launches in America with the xDrive28i model boasting a 2.0-liter TwinTurbo 4-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can chose between FWD or xDrive all-wheel-drive. Later on a 190 hp version of the same engine will be released, while in Europe people can also order 1.8 and 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesels with 150, 190, or 230 horsepower. A 300 hp M Sport version is also on the cards.

In terms of technology, the 2016 BMW X1 benefits from the latest EfficientDyanmics system with an EcoPro mode, full-LED adaptive headlights, BMW Head-Up Display and Driver Assistance Plus which includes a whole host of electronic safety features. The car launches in fall 2015 with a refined interior and a long list of comfort and convenience options.
